The Home Saver Kit Takes 30 Minutes to Install.

In this video, Cynthia walks you step-by-step through mapping your utilities, placing shutoff tags, and positioning tools so your household feels confident and prepared.

We recommend the entire family works together to install the Home Saver Kit, and review how each of the shutoff valves work.

#1: Create Your Map

Estimate Time: 10 Minutes.

Customize your map using the stickers provided in the kit.

All homes are different, your map needs to look like your home. On the map use the W, G, and E stickers to indicate your Water, Gas, and Electricity Shutoff locations.

We recommend posting your map under your kitchen sink.

Discuss with your family members on where the map will be posted.

#2: Water Shutoff Valve

Estimate Time: 5 Minutes.

Follow the map to the water shutoff valve, and use the zip tie to fasten the laminated water shutoff tag to the piping around the shutoff valve.

Review how the water shutoff valve works.

#3: Gas Shutoff Valve

Estimate Time: 5 Minutes.

Follow the map to the gas shutoff valve, and use the zip tie to fasten the laminated gas shutoff tag to the piping around the shutoff valve.

Hang the wrench on the gas pipe, and review how the wrench works to turn the valve.

#4: Electricity Shutoff Panel

Estimate Time: 5 Minutes.

Follow the map to the electricity shutoff breaker, attach the laminated electricity shutoff tag to your home's panel.

Apply the "off" sticker to indicate the direction you need to move the breaker.

Review how the breaker works.

#5: Mounting the Map

Estimate Time: 5 Minutes.

Most Home Saver Kit owners use the velcro hanger to mount the customized map under their kitchen sink, so it is readily available if there's and emergency.

Make sure each family member knows where the map is located and understands how and when to use the kit.

Home Saver Utility Shutoff Kit

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Kit work in any type of home?

Yes. The Home Saver Kit is suitable for single-family homes, townhomes, condos, and many rental properties with accessible utility shutoffs.

Please Note: We do not recommend using the Home Saver Kit for apartment buildings and multi-business complexes.

Who should install the Home Saver Kit?

The Home Saver Kit is designed for easy, do-it-yourself installation, so a plumber or electrician is not required.

Most homeowners install the system themselves using the step-by-step instructions and guidance provided.

Some customers choose to have a professional quickly review the installation afterward for added reassurance, but it’s entirely optional.

We also recommend making installation a family activity. Walking through the shutoff locations together, and reviewing how each valve works, helps ensure everyone in the household knows how to respond confidently in an emergency.

Does the Kit really take 30 minutes to install?

Yes! We've spoken to several of our customers and they all confirm that the Home Saver Kit took them roughly 30 minutes to install.

Our easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions ensure your kit is installed properly.

We recommend the entire family to work together to install the Home Saver Kit, and review how each of the utilities work, and are shut off in an emergency.

Where should I post the customized map for quick access in an emergency?

We recommend storing your Home Saver Map in a spot that’s easy to reach and remember, not tucked away or hidden.

The kit includes a Velcro hanger, making it simple to mount inside a cupboard or cabinet door, most homeowners choose the inside of the kitchen sink cabinet door for quick access.

Make sure every family member knows exactly where it is, and be ready to tell a guest, housekeeper, or friend where to find it if needed.

In an emergency, seconds count, and keeping your map visible and accessible ensures everyone can act fast and confidently.

How long does the Kit last?

The Home Saver Kit tags are laminated and weather-resistant, built to handle the elements.

However, if your shut-off points are outdoors, the tags can naturally fade or wear over time. We recommend checking them once a year and replacing them every two years to ensure they stay clear and legible.

When you register your Home Saver Kit online, your first replacement set of tags is free (just pay for shipping) within two years of original purchase.

Replacement tags and other components are also available anytime through our Home Saver Kit online store.

Can other people use the Kit if I'm not home?

Yes. The system is designed so family members, babysitters, guests, or caregivers can follow it easily in an emergency.

Clear shutoff tags, step-by-step instructions, and your customized home utility map make it simple for anyone in the home to act quickly, without prior training or experience.

Instead of searching, guessing, or calling for help, they can immediately locate and shut off the water, gas, and/or electricity if a problem arises.

This added layer of preparedness ensures your home is protected even when you’re at work, traveling, or simply away for the day, giving you peace of mind that others can step in and respond confidently when it matters most.

What makes the Home Saver Kit different from DIY labeling?

Unlike handwritten labels or temporary solutions, Home Saver Kit provides a structured, durable, and professionally designed preparedness system.

Rather than relying on tape, markers, or memory, the Kit uses premium, weather-resistant shutoff tags, a customized utility map, and dedicated tools that are engineered to remain visible and legible for years.

DIY labeling often fades, falls off, becomes outdated, or lacks clear instructions, especially in high-stress situations.

Home Saver Kit is designed specifically for emergency response, with step-by-step guidance that helps any family member, guest, or caregiver act quickly and confidently.

The Home Saver Kit provides permanent clarity and faster action when every second matters.

Why should the Kit NOT be used for apartment buildings and multi-business complexes?

The Home Saver Kit is designed for single-family homes, townhomes, and individual residential units where utility shutoff points are dedicated to one household.

In apartment buildings and multi-business complexes, utility systems are often centralized, shared, or controlled by property management or maintenance teams.

Shutting off water, gas, or electricity in these environments may impact multiple units or tenants and typically requires authorized personnel.

For safety, compliance, and liability reasons, residents of these properties should contact building management or emergency services rather than attempting to shut off shared utilities themselves.

Does the Home Saver Kit make a good gift?

Yes, especially when there's a "Home Saver Story" that goes along with the Kit.

Many homeowners, Realtors, and Insurance Professionals gift the kit as a meaningful safety and preparedness tool, to show they care.

For homeowners, it’s a thoughtful way to help family members, neighbors, or new homeowners feel confident and prepared.

It’s especially valued by parents gifting to adult children, or families supporting aging relatives living independently.

For Realtors, the Home Saver Kit serves as a memorable closing gift, one that protects the property long after the transaction is complete. It reinforces care, professionalism, and a commitment to clients’ long-term well-being.

Insurance professionals view the kit as a proactive risk-reduction gesture, helping clients limit potential damage while strengthening trust and ongoing relationships.

Unlike traditional gifts, our Kit is practical, lasting, and directly tied to protecting what matters most: home & family.
